Read Only - eMMC lifetime

Has it ever been considered to use a read only file system to help preserve eMMC memory life. In my limited research it looks like eMMC won't last forever and the NAND memory will eventually start to wear after so many read/write cycles. I wonder if Kunbus has any data on the projected lifetime of the eMMC storage and if a read only file system could significantly improve the life?
